    First edition.

    Two volumes, containing 'Travels Amongst the Great Andes of the Equator', plus the additional supplementary appendix. The supplementary volume of scientific material was published before the main volume (Neate 899).

    Each bound in the publisher's original cloth.

    Illustrated, with a frontispiece, four maps, twenty plates and numerous vignettes to volume one. With an additional fourteen plates and numerous vignettes to the supplementary volume.

    Collated, complete.

    A fantastic first-hand account of the travels of Edward Whymper, an esteemed English mountaineer and explorer, best known for completing the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865.

    In this work Whymper presents his successful expedition in the Great Andes of South America, which includes the ascents of Chimborazo, Corazon, Sincholagua, Cotopaxi, Pichincha, Cayambe and Carihuairazo.

    Condition

    Bound in the publisher's cloth. Externally, very good, with some rubbing to the extremities and the odd light mark. Small hole to front hinge of volume I. Mark to the rear board of supplementary volume. Front hinge of supplementary volume is strained, but holding generally firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with some pages remaining unopened. A few tears to the central folds of folding map held in the rear pocket to volume I.
