This is a beautifully bound full morocco edition of Aytoun's best works, with subtle gilt decoration to the corners of the boards and along the spine, complete with a gilt fore edge.
With a printed dedication to Archibald William Montgomerie.
William Edmondstoune Aytoun was a Scottish poet, lawyer, and professor of rhetoric at Edinburgh University. This collection contains eight 'Lays of the Scottish Cavaliers', including 'The Heart of the Bruce', 'The Burial-March of Dundee', and 'Edinburgh after Flodden', along with nine further 'Miscellaneous Poems.'
Condition
In full morocco with gilt decoration to the front and back boards and spine. Externally, generally smart with visible rubbing to extremities, including to head and tail of spine and to joints. Fading to boards and spine, with areas of slight loss. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to first and last free endpapers. Slight age toning to pages. Marbled paste downs. Gilt fore edge.
