Written by Nobel Prize-winning American author John Steinbeck, known for his highly influential and popular novels, particularly 'The Grapes of Wrath' and 'Of Mice and Men'.
This novel tells the story of married couple Juan and Alice, who work and live in California's Salinas Valley, a popular setting of Steinbeck novels. Both characters, as well as the other characters they encounter in the novel, are deeply flawed, and Steinbeck spends the majority of the book exploring these flaws as well as the transitory nature of humanity.
This novel was adapted into a black-and-white film in 1957 starring Jayne Mansfield, Joan Collins, Dan Dailey, and Rick Jason.
Pencil inscription of H. A. Mason, the lecturer and literary critic.
