The most popular work of "Michael Fairless", alias of the Christian author Margaret Barber.
Originally published in 1900, 'The Roadmender' was written towards the end of Barber's life as a contemplation on heaven, and meditation on Christian life.

Bound in green cloth, with striking gilt designs to the front board and spine, in addition to a gilt top edge.
This book contains a frontispiece and 7 further colour plates, which accompany the text with depictions of beautiful rural scenery.
Collated, complete.

Includes a personal inscription, denoting the gifting of this copy to an Ethel Mary Conder in 1911.
Conder was the second headmistress at Milton Mount College, which catered to the daughters of ministers, like herself.
Small, embossed detail to back board.

Condition

Bound in green cloth. Externally, very smart. Very slight bumping to head and tail. Very slight marks to back board. Small library sticker to front pastedown. Age toning to free endpapers. Ink personal inscription prior to front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Occasional small tear to protective tissue paper. Occasional spotting and handling marks throughout.
