First edition.

In publisher's original cloth binding. With unclipped second-state dust wrapper, featuring the corrected spelling of "earring".

With a colour illustration of a piece of Delftware to the front and rear endpapers.

Inspired by Johannes Vermeer's famous painting of the same name, Chevalier fictionalises the lives of Vermeer and the model, who she names Griet, in this acclaimed historical retelling. The story is set in 17th-century Delft, a Dutch city known for its long art history and as the birthplace of Delft pottery.

Girl With a Pearl Earring is an international bestseller and Chevalier's most successful work. In 2003 it was adapted into a film starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth.
