A collection of works by Moliere, complete in four volumes with two volumes to each.
Bound in half morocco with cloth boards.
Undated, dated from copies held institutionally.
Jean-Baptise Poquelin (known by his stage name Moliere) was a French playwright, actor and poet. He is widely considered one of the great writers in the French language.
These volumes consist of a selection of his works, a large majority of which are comedies and comedie-ballets, genres that Moliere polished during his time as an actor.
This set comprises:
Vol 1 - Vol I and II contain 'L'etourdi', 'L'ecole des Maris' and others.
Vol 2 - Volume III and IV contain 'L'impromptu de Versailles', 'Le Misanthrope' and others.
Vol 3 - Volume V and VI contain 'Le Tartuffe', 'George Dandin' and others.
Vol 4 - Volume VII and VIII contain 'Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme', 'Les Femmes Savantes' and others.
Condition
In half morocco binding with cloth boards. Externally, very smart with minor rubbing to the extremities and marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with scattered spotting to the endpapers and the odd spot throughout. Contemporary ink inscriptions to Vol 1 front endpaper. Small tear to the 'La Tartuffe' first couple leaves to Vol V.
