First edition, rebound in a red full calf prize binding, with a gilt motif of Wycliffe College, Stonehouse to the front board.
Written by William J. Long, an American writer, naturalist and minister. In the 1920s, he began spending his summers in Nova Scotia, claiming "the wilderness is getting too crowded".
This interesting work explores many different areas of nature in Canada, including the way of the wolf, trails that cross in the snow, Matwock of the icebergs, where the salmon jump, and much more.
Illustrated by Charles Copeland, an American book illustrator from 1887 to 1940, a member of the Boston Watercolour Society and Boston Art Club.
Bookplate awarding the work to K. A. Cleland for the most marked improvement of those in the Lower Third Form in Wycliffe College, dated 1907.
Condition
Rebound in a red full calf prize binding, with a gilt motif of Wycliffe College Stonehouse to the front board. Externally, smart, with light bumping to the extremities. Slight rubbing to the joints and to the extremities, with the front joint cracked to the head and tail. The occasional mark to boards and a touch of fading to the spine. Bookplate to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot.
