Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) was an English playwright, poet, and essayist during the eighteenth-century. He was also a devout Anglican and fervent Tory.
Complete in two volumes.
Including Volume I, which covers Johnson's life from 1709 to 1775, and Volume II, which covers Johnson's life from 1776 to 1784.
Including a frontispiece portrait of Johnson to the front of each volume.
Bound in half calf by Riviere and Son and enclosed in a matching cloth slipcase.
Condition
Bound in half calf binding by Riviere and Son with cloth covered boards and gilt detailing to the spine. Externally, the boards are bright. The spine has faded and the calf has faded slightly to the boards where the volumes were exposed from the slipcase. A small stain to the spine of Volume I. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
