Written by Eighteenth century agricultural author, William Marshall, who was a proponent of the establishment of a state-sponsored body to improve farming standards.

Marshall's work guides the reader through the purchase, improvement and management of landed estates, offering a wealth of practical information. Discussing valuations, reclaiming watery lands, consolidating detached properties, appropriating common lands, improving mines and quarries, and on the process of renting out lands and buildings.

This work includes an interesting section devoted to salmon fisheries.

Bound in full calf with the endpapers renewed. Lacking half title. With an advertisement leaf and index to the rear.

A few ink notations dotted throughout providing comments from a previous owner, including a few pages tipped-in and loosely inserted.

With the bookplates of British M. P. Nathaniel Clayton, The Rev. Lee Ackworth and John Browne Swinburne.

Condition

Bound in full calf with the endpapers renewed. Externally, very good, with rubbing causing some loss to the board extremities. Front hinge is a touch strained, but holding firm. Bookplates to front paste down and endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, wth the odd handling mark. A few ink notations dotted throughout from a previous owner, including a few pages tipped-in and loosely inserted.
