With the printed dedication to The Countess of Gifford following the title page. Also contains six pages of original publisher's advertisements to the rear of the work. 


With past owner's bookplate to front paste down, and contemporary ink inscription to top right first free endpaper. 


Uncle Silas, subtitled 'A Tale of Bartram Haugh', is an 1864 Victorian Gothic mystery-thriller novel by Irish writer J. Sheridan Le Fanu.
Considered Le Fanu's magnum opus, it is one of the most significant Gothic novels of the Victorian period, enjoyed today as a modern psychological thriller.

 

Condition

In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart, with visible bumping to head and tail of spine. Light shelf wear and fading to extremities and joints. Fading to spine. Light handling marks to boards. Front hinge strained. Internally, generally firmly bound. With past owner's bookplate to front paste down, and contemporary ink inscription to top right first free endpaper. Age toning to pages throughout.
