In full calf with intricate gilt decoration to the boards and spine, with marbled endpapers and a marble fore edge. With the Latin epigraph from Cicero's De Natura Deorum.
Contains a past owner's bookplate in the front paste down.
Of the Conduct of the Understanding first appeared in 1706 as part of Locke's Posthumous Works. Locke was an English philosopher, physician, and political theorist, whose writing primarily influenced epistemological and political philosophy. He is considered one of the first British empiricists.
Condition
A prize binding in full calf with gilt decoration to the front and back boards and spine. Externally, very smart with some rubbing to joints and extremities. Fading to back board and spine. Handling marks to boards. Marbled endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with only slight marginal age toning. Past owner's bookplate in the front paste down. Marbled fore edge.
