An 1807 new edition of John Locke's Of the Conduct of the Understanding in a full calf prize binding from Mrs Grant's Establishment, 1823. 

In full calf with intricate gilt decoration to the boards and spine, with marbled endpapers and a marble fore edge. With the Latin epigraph from Cicero's De Natura Deorum.

Contains a past owner's bookplate in the front paste down. 

Of the Conduct of the Understanding first appeared in 1706 as part of Locke's Posthumous Works. Locke was an English philosopher, physician, and political theorist, whose writing primarily influenced epistemological and political philosophy. He is considered one of the first British empiricists.
