This is a first edition of the work, in smart red cloth binding with a decorative stamp motif to the front board and gilt to the spine. In original dust wrapper with decorative, crossword endpapers.
Len Deighton is a British author known for his novels on espionage and military history. He has written a number of works on The Cold War and World War Two, including this one and The Ipcress File, which has since been adapted into a popular film.
This particular novel is the second in the series featuring the unnamed secret agent working for the British intelligence agency. This work follows The Ipcress File with two further novels, Funeral in Berlin and Billion Dollar Brain following Horse Under Water in the series. As with the other novels, Horse Under Water has an intricate plot with many false leads and plot twists.

Condition
In original publisher's cloth binding with the original dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light bumping to the extremities. The odd pen mark to front endpapers and slight loss to the rear paste down. Dust wrapper is smart, with light edgewear and the occasional chip. Tape reinforcing the wrap to the reverse of the spine and to the rear flap. Age toning and sunning to the wrap, mainly to the edges, with the odd mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Lacking the crossword insert to the rear.
