Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

The first edition, first impression.

Bound in the publisher's cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper.

An entertaining work, largely autobiographical, as it is based on the author's hallucinations caused by bromide intoxications, experienced during the early months of 1954.

These moments are retold from the character of Gilbert Pinfold, who, similar to Waugh at the time, was a writer struggling with a number of maladies, including insomnia and personal anxieties.

Written by prolific English author, Evelyn Waugh, known for his novels and travel writings.

Condition

Bound in the publisher's cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing and the odd minor mark. Ink inscription to front paste down. Dust wrapper is generally smart, with rubbing to joints and the odd mark, heavier to rear panel. Light edge wear and the odd tear to wrap, with tape reinforcing the verso. Internally, firmly bound with bright, clean pages.
