From notable Australian folklorist, Joseph Jacobs. He is best known for his fairy-tale collections published in 1890 and 1893, which popularised classics such as "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and "The Three Little Pigs".
This collection brings traditional Celtic tales from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Cornwall to an English-speaking audience. Examples of such tales include "Connla and the Fairy Maiden", "Guleesh" and "The Sea-Maiden".
Condition
In publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Minor bumping and rubbing to spine tips. Slight marking visible to back board. Bookplate from Henry Prince to front paste down and inscription to first free endpaper reading "Hal Prince, Xmas 1891, from N.E.G.". Ink inscription "Hal Prince" also to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Article clipping "Jacob's joyous collection of British folklore" tipped in. Minor spotting towards the first and last few pages, pages otherwise very bright and clean.
