Illustrated, Leather Binding, Very Scarce

A very scarce and unique volume of plates, depicting Laurence Sterne's 'A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy'.

The plates are done in pen and ink, simple yet detailed and descriptive depictions of scenes throughout the novel. The plates are tipped-in, each accompanied by an additional framing leaf.

Illustrated with a total of seventy-two plates.

Gift inscription to the front paste down. "To Naomi on our 3rd anniversary, with love, Sidney, Oberursel, Germany, 1 Oct 45". "Naomi" to the tail of the spine.

Condition

In a full crushed morocco binding. Externally, rubbed to the spine. A few light marks to the boards. Gift inscription to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. A few of the plates are detached but present.
