What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

A later edition of this illustrated book from Kate Greenaway.

Although Greenaway illustrated over 150 books, Under the Window is one of two books that make up the only ones she both wrote and illustrated.

It is considered to be one of the earliest examples of a designer picture book, and its popularity caused it to highly imitated.

In fact, the publisher of this edition, Frederick Warne, published Afternoon Tea: A Book of New Rhymes for Children within weeks of Under the Window's original release in 1879, which Greenaway regarded as "blatant piracy".
