What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Very Scarce
Comprising eleven out of the twelve photo postcards issued total. Lacking 'The Sultan of Ahaggar and his chiefs. Famous men of the veiled people in the heart of the Sahara'.
With the vanishingly scarce original envelope.
These striking postcards depict scenes from the 3,500-mile Saharan expedition underwent by Captain Angus Buchanan, a British soldier, explorer and writer. The journey was noted for its challenging environment and overwhelming zoological contributions. The images were photographed by expedition photographer T. A. Glover, who also captured their travels in a pioneering film shown at The Palace cinema in London.
The film was accompanied by an exhibition of 500 species of animals and birds that Buchanan had brought back from the Sahara and, for a brief period in 1924, Buchanan became a celebrity figure in Britain.
Complete sets of these postcards are very scarce and thus highly sought after, with this collection standing as a particularly rare example retaining the original envelope.
Condition
A collection of eleven postcards. With the vanishingly scarce original envelope. Postcards are in excellent condition, with only the very odd faint spot to the blank side. Envelope is age toned and worn, with opened sides, top, and chips and tears to the paper.
