The Everyman's Library made works of historical and cultural significance affordable and thus attainable for a wider audience. It was founded in 1906 and is still publishing works today. It was started with the intention of releasing one thousand volumes of literature and writings from all over the world; this target was reached in 1956.
Edited by Ernest Rhys (1859-1946), a writer and editor remembered for founding this series of classic works.
Comprising of 'A Dictionary of Dates brought down to the Present Day', 'A Dictionary of Non-Classical Mythology', 'Atlas of Ancient and Classical Geography', 'A Literary and Historical Atlas of Asia' and 'A Literary and Historical Atlas of Africa and Australasia'.
Number 554, 'A Dictionary of Dates brought down to the Present Day', is a revised edition published in 1928.
Number 451, 'Atlas of Ancient and Classical Geography', is a reprint published in 1928. It contains sixty-four plates, which are maps.
'A Literary and Historical Atlas of Asia' is undated and contains ten plates, as well as countless maps and plans.
'A Literary and Historical Atlas of Africa and Australasia' is undated and richly illustrated, with ten plates.
Number 632, 'A Dictionary of Non-Classical Mythology', is a reprint from 1929 and illustrated.
A marvellous and thorough set.
Condition
In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just a little general wear to the head and tail of the spines. Internally, generally firmly bound, with slight straining to the hinges occasionally. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot. Page 223 of 'A Literary and Historical Atlas of Asia' has been coloured in by a child's hand.
