An early edition, with 1905 on the copyright page, but conforming largely to Quinby 9b, aside from the presence of the comma after Joan and the period after Baby on the verso of the half title.
Illustrated by Potter with a colour frontispiece and nine further colour plates, alongside vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.

In the publisher's original paper covered boards, with pictorial onlay to front board. Boards bright. Lacking lower half of back strip. Joints starting, with boards weakly held. Lacking front free endpaper. Internally, binding strained throughout. Pages clean and bright, with only the odd light handling mark.
