Author's presentation copy, inscribed to the recto of the front endpaper, "Robert Clifton Rice, from his newly promoted uncle, the author, Holbrook Jackson, 1:ii:41 Mill Hill". A lovely association copy of a work not often seen signed.
A series of charming essays by Holbrook Jackson, collecting together twenty-six essays, which had originally been published in two earlier volumes, 'Romance and Reality', and 'All Manner of Folk'. For this volume, Jackson revised the essays, and added four which had never appeared in book form before.

A noted journalist who worked for numerous magazines during his career, Jackson is known as being one of the leading bibliophiles of his time. He founded in the Flying Fame Press alongside Ralph Hodgson and Claud Lovat Fraser, and had a long association with English small presses.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Spine is faded. A couple of very light marks to the cloth. Very light shelf wear to the head and tail of the spine. Author's inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Small mark to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
