A programme for a performance of "Beauty & the Barge", a show presented by the Karachi Amateur Dramatic Club, which took place in October 1914.
Written by W. W. Jacobs and Louis N. Parker, this particular performance starred Mr. H. J. Mahon, Mr. S. Glover, Captain Cargill, and others. With five photographs depicting the cast of the show and various scenes.
In this comedy play, or "farce in 3 acts", a young woman is engaged to a man she does not love, and instead of marrying him, she decides to run away.
This programme is interspersed with numerous original advertisements for businesses local to Karachi, giving insight into life in Pakistan's largest city in the early twentieth century.
Condition
Bound in the publisher's paper wraps. Externally, smart, with light creasing and edge wear. A little fading to wraps and a few small tears. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with a few light handling marks.
