This is an entertaining work which was greatly popular after its first publication in 1846 - this was the publication which helped to popularise the form and genre of literary nonsense.

Illustrated with a total of one-hundred and ten entertaining illustrations.

Edward Lear was a popular illustrator, musician, and author of the Victorian era, best known for this genre of nonsense poetry in the vein of Lewis Carroll.

Undated, dated from the ink inscription to the verso of the half-title.

Collated, complete.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, resulting in the tail of the spine to be lifting. Some light marks to the boards and spine. Spine is a little faded. Some light rubbing to the boards and spine. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots, mostly to the first and last few pages. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the half-title.
