In the publisher's original quarter brown cloth binding with pictorial gilt paper covered boards.
"The Dream of Gerontius" is an 1865 poem by John Henry Newman, later styled as Cardinal Newman (1819–1890). It charts the spiritual journey of a pious soul from death, through Purgatory, toward the Beatific Vision.
This copy features eight charming colour plate illustrations by Robert T. Rose.
John Henry Newman (1801-1890) was a leading English theologian who converted from Anglicanism to Catholicism, became a cardinal in 1879, and is celebrated for his writings such as Apologia Pro Vita Sua and the hymn “Praise to the Holiest in the Height.” This work is most best known poetic work.
Condition
In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. One or two very slight handling mark to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots to fore edge.
