Two of Jules Verne's popular 'Voyages Extraordinaires' in one volume, both in the original French.

This volume includes 'Le Tour du Monde en 80 Jours' and 'Le Docteur Ox'.

'Le Tour du Monde en 80 Jours' is illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece, a double-paged map, three hand-coloured plates, and in-text illustrations.

'Le Docteur Ox' is illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece, four hand-coloured plates, and in-text illustrations.

'Around the World in Eighty Days' is a noted adventure nove, following Londoner Phileas Fogg and his French valet, Passepartout, and their attempt to circumnavigate the world in eighty days.

'Doctor Ox' is a collection of four short tales by, first published in this collection in 1874. The titular tale is the best known, a humorous sci-fi story which discusses the brilliant experiments by Dr. Ox, set in an imaginary village in Belgium. Dr. Ox later appears as the villain in Verne's 1882 play 'Journey Through the Impossible'. The tale is thought to have inspired H. G. Wells in writing 'The Food of the Gods'.

Undated, dated between 1905 and 1914, as per Philippe Jauzac's bibliography. This is the edition with one elephant and a fan to the front board, an issue without the printer's mark to the reverse of the half-title.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Spine is a little discoloured. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Hinges are starting but firm. Bookseller's label to the front paste down. Ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with the occasional scattered spot.
