A vanishingly scarce, early, edition. Held institutionally in only three UK libraries. Dated from the British Library. In the publisher's original, full, pictorial cloth. The author's presentation copy, with an ink inscription reading 'To Majories Clappedon, from her loving uncle, Stanhope Ward, Xmas 1924', to the front free endpaper. Illustrated with a beautiful engraved frontispiece and seven plates throughout. Collated complete. A charming book of fairy tales by Stanhope Edgar Ward, best known for his 'Poems of Persia'. With titles such as 'The Story of Stradivarius', 'The Golden Pippins' and 'The Foolish Baron'.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear to the edges. Spine is darkened. A few small marks to the boards. Author's ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Hinges weak. Spotting and offsetting to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Internally, binding strained. Pages age-toned with a few scattered marks throughout. The plate on page 29 has been coloured with pencil.
