What Our Customers Say...
Description
Colour Plates, Fine Binding, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Original Binding, Very Scarce
A beautifully bound early twentieth-century commemorative work on British naval ships and diving submarines.
Originally, this work was not for publication, and works such as these were often given out as commemorative gifts following Royal Naval visits or launches.
This particular copy contains illustrations and information about the 'Dreadnought', submarines, torpedo destroyers, and the Main Fleet.
The Dreadnought was a battleship first launched by the Royal Navy in 1906 as the H.M.S. Dreadnought. It was so influential that all battleships created subsequently were referred to as 'dreadnought types' and earlier battleships were called 'pre-dreadnoughts'.
This work contains fourteen tipped-in photographs, six of which are in colour. Including one photograph of the 'Dreadnought', five photographs of diving submarines, two photographs of torpedo destroyers, and six illustrated plates depicting the Main Fleet in Home Waters ('Dreadnought' types).
Collated and complete.
Beautifully bound in full royal blue calf with gilt detailing and satin endpapers.
Condition
Beautifully bound in full royal blue calf with gilt detailing and satin endpapers. Externally, lovely, with just a small amount of rubbing to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. The odd spot to the pages, which are otherwise bright and clean throughout.
