This volume includes 'Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour', 'Handley Cross', and 'Ask Mamma'. Robert Smith Surtees was a popular sporting writer, well beloved for his sporting novels.
'Handley Cross' is a comical novel about the adventures of the eccentric John Jorrocks, a grocer turned Master of Fox Hounds.
‘Mr Sponge’s Sporting Tour’ follows the adventures of a grocer who becomes the Master of Fox Hounds, a comical social commentary of sporting life in the country.
'Ask Mama' is one of Surtees' popular entertaining sporting novels for which he is well known, following who is supposed to be the richest commoner in England.
Each novel is illustrated throughout by John Leech.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Spine is faded. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Light rubbing and marks to the cloth. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean with a few scattered spots.
