    Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

    Later edition. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, fourteen black-and-white plates, and numerous in-text images. Collated complete. A collection of stories dealing with the history of missions by Seamen Chaplains. Based on the author's own experiences as chaplain to seamen in the Downs and Deal, with chapters on incidents on English vessels, visits to the Varne Lightship, sailor's perils, temptations, and safeguards. Written by Reverend Thomas Stanley Treanor, a British scholar and author who also wrote Heroes of the Goodwin Sands. With publisher's advertisements to the rear. Dated from the British Library.

    Condition

    In the original orange pictorial cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor wear and light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting and minor age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
