Description
Colour Plates, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
A vanishingly scarce work. Held institutionally at only three libraries; University of Cambridge, Bibliotheek Universiteit van Amsterdam, and the University of Washington.
Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Cambridge Libraries.
The volume is cut to the top edge to shape of the front wrap's clown's ruffled collar and head.
An entertaining and unique work for children, a poetical volume on clowns and their escapades.
This work includes a total of nine short poems; 'The Three Handed Boxer', 'The Musical Clowns', 'The Clown Jockey', 'Aerobatic Clown', 'The Merry Skaters', 'Aerobatic Cycling Clown', 'Rival Clowns', The Barbarous Clown', and 'The Great Hat Feat'.
Designed by Vernon E. Barrett, with colourful illustrations to each page.
The publisher, Perry & Co. Limited, was a dip pens manufacturer, founded in 1824.
Condition
In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, generally smart with light handling marks and spots to the wraps. Light edge wear to the wraps, a little heavier to the rear wrap. A small amount of loss to the backstrip, heavier to the head and tail. Internally, textblock is working loose from the wraps. Pages are bright with light handling marks and spots.
