The Severn Tunnel was opened by Great Western Railway in 1886. They begun work on the tunnel, which measures at 7,008 meters long, in 1873, to link South Gloucestershire to Monmouthshire, and remained the longest underwater tunnel in the world for a century
Designed by GWR's chief engineer Sir John Hawkshaw, this tunnel is considered to be his crowning achievement.
Condition
In the original limp morocco binding. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed with minor marks. Internally, in a folding concertina-style binding, mounted on linen. Pages are a little age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots and handling marks. Prior owner's pencil annotations to the margins.
