Illustrated with a hand-coloured frontispiece, hand-coloured title vignette, four monochromatic plates, twenty-three hand-coloured plates on steel, and numerous in-text images. Collated complete. An entertaining novel following the adventures of trickster Facey Romford, who takes advantage of society's greed and gullibility. Written by Robert Smith Surtees, an English editor, novelist and sporting writer, widely known as R. S. Surtees, remembered for his invented character of Jorrocks, a vulgar but good-natured sporting cockney grocer. Illustrated by John Leech, a British caricaturist and illustrator, and Hablot Knight Browne, a British artist and illustrator.

Condition

In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and boards with the odd small mark. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Light age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
