This copy is a scarce work by Margaret McKirdy Black, Head Mistress of the West-End Training School of Cookery in Glasgow. She wrote many books on cookery and housekeeping and went on to establish a reputable cookery school, which later merged to become part of what is today Queen’s College Glasgow.
In this volume she proposes all sorts of dishes, from soups and fish recipes, to meat and vegetable dishes, salads, savouries, puddings, and sweets and desserts.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Rubbing to spine causing substantial fading to lettering. The odd slight handling mark to rear board and spine. Endpapers slightly age toned with slight offsetting. Previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Bookplate from "Martin & Pamela Finch: Exlibris Gastronomique" to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Hinges a little strained in places, but firm. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot.
