Description

Leather Binding, Original Binding

The 'Edinburgh Edition'.

Bound in quarter morocco with cloth to the boards.

A complete twenty-five volume set.

This set features a collection of the 'Waverley novels', which are a long series of novels by Sir Walter Scott. They were the most popular and widely read novels in Europe for almost a century. The series was titled Waverley, after the first novel of the series, as Scott did not claim authorship until 1827. Prior to Scott's acknowledgement of his authorship the novels were stated as 'by the author of Waverley' to their title pages. Sir Walter Scott was a historical novelist, playwright and poet. Aside from his writings he was an advocate, judge and legal administrator.

This set includes; Waverley, Woodstock, The Betrothed, Peveril of the Peak, The Abbot, Rob Roy, St Ronan's Well, The Fortunes of Nigel, The Fair Maid of Perth, The Talisman, Quentin Durward, Old Mortality, Count Robert of Paris, The Heart of Midlothian, Ivanhoe, The Pirate, Guy Mannering, The Antiquary, A Legend of Montrose with The Black Dwarf, The Bride of Lammermoor, The Monastery, Anne of Geierstein, Kenilworth, The Surgeon's Daughter with Castle Dangerous and Redgauntlet.

Undated. Dating by copies held by the British Library.
