Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding

This book is three stories published in one volume. With illustrations by Benett. Jules Gabriel Verne, 1828 – 1905, was a French author who helped pioneer the science-fiction genre. Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before navigable aircraft and practical submarines were invented, and before any means of space travel had been devised. Consequently he is often referred to as the "Father of science fiction", along with H. G. Wells. Verne is the one of the most translated authors of all time. According to Verne's publisher, Jules Hetzel, the ‘Voyages Extraordinaires’ series of novels and non-fiction works intent was "to outline all the geographical, geological, physical, and astronomical knowledge amassed by modern science and to recount, in an entertaining and picturesque format...the history of the universe." Verne's meticulous attention to detail and scientific trivia, coupled with his sense of wonder and exploration, form the backbone of the Voyages Extraordinaires. Part of the reason for the broad appeal of his work was the sense that the reader could really learn something of geology, biology, astronomy, paleontology, oceanography and the exotic locations and cultures of world through the adventures of Verne's protagonists.
