A detailed maritime history with commentary on the important sailing figures of the times, with chapters on navigation in the Roman Empire, the travels of Marco Polo, the application of the magnetic needle, the first voyage around the world, discoveries, Arctic exploration, and more. Written by Frank Boott Goodrich, a British writer. Dated from advertisements to the rear.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Light scattered spotting to the first and last few pages. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
