Illustrated with a frontispiece, three plates, and numerous in-text images. Collated complete. Traveling to the American West five times during the 1830s, Catlin wrote about and painted portraits that depicted the life of the Plains Indians. This work records some trips amongst the tribes of South and Central America, as well as those on the Pacific side of the Rocky Mountains. Written by George Catlin, an American lawyer, painter, author, and traveler, who specialized in portraits of Native Americans in the American frontier.

Condition

In the original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark to the cloth and a light stain to the rear board. Hinges just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown.
