What Our Customers Say...

Description

Folding Maps, Leather Binding, Signed Binding

Bound in a handsome full calf binding by Riviere.

Complete in six volumes.

New editions, with the author’s final corrections.

A complete set of Adam Clarke’s influential Bible with commentary, containing the Old and New Testaments with marginal readings, parallel texts, and extensive critical notes intended to support a fuller understanding of scripture.

This commentary, which took Clarke forty years to complete, was a primary Methodist theological resource for two centuries. Clarke followed Wesley in opposing a Calvinistic scheme of salvation, and considered Scripture itself a miracle of God's grace that "takes away the veil of darkness and ignorance."

Compromising:

The Old Testament, Volume I: Genesis to Deuteronomy. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, a folding genealogical table of the patriarchs from Adam to Jacob and a folding map. Collated, complete.

The Old Testament, Volume II: Joshua to Esther.

The Old Testament, Volume III: Job to Solomon’s Song.

The Old Testament, Volume IV: Isaiah to Malachi.

The New Testament, Volume I: Matthew to Romans. Illustrated with two fold-out maps. Collated, complete.

The New Testament, Volume II: 1 Corinthians to Revelation.

Adam Clarke (1762-1832) was a leading Methodist theologian and biblical scholar whose commentary became foundational for 19th-century English biblical studies; this “new edition” is the final authorised form of his work.
