In full morocco with gilt lettering and decoration to the spines with raised bands.

Marbled end papers. Undated. Circa date provided through a copy held at the British Library.

With frontispieces to each volume and illustrated throughout with full page illustrations and vignettes.

This set of works from the 'Illustrated Travels' series has been edited by explorer and naturalist H. W. Bates. This series has been beautifully illustrated with engravings from original drawings by celebrated artists. These works contain details on voyages to places such as Mexico, India and the creatures and people they encountered. This set contains volume one-three of the six volumes.

Condition

In full morocco. Externally sound with rubbing to the extremities, joints, spines and boards resulting in loss to the leather to the extremities of 'Volume 1' and very minor loss to the leather to the boards of 'Volume 2'. Tide marks to the rear end papers of 'Volume 1'. Internally generally firmly bound with the front blanks to 'Volume 1' starting but firm. Pages are generally bright with light age toning, the odd spot throughout and scattered spotting to the front and rear of 'Volume 2'. Tide marks to the front and rear of 'Volume 1'.
