First published in 1845, this is a later edition, complete in two volumes.

Charles Knight's extensive history of England, looking at the development of the country from the time before the conquest up to the eighteenth century. Knight also looks at the progress of society for the century preceding the Victorian era.

Volume I illustrated with a chromolithographic frontispiece, seventeen chromolithographic plates, and monochrome illustrations throughout. Collated, complete.

Volume II illustrated with a chromolithographic frontispiece, nineteen chromolithographic plates, and monochrome illustrations throughout. Collated, lacking three chromolithographs, but retaining their tissue guards.

Undated; dated circa 1864 via the Universities of Durham and Manchester.

Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed. Publisher's original cloth of front board of volume I laid down.

Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed. Publisher's original cloth front board of volume I laid down. Externally, excellent. Internally, firmly bound, but with list of illustrations leaf to volume II somewhat tenderly held by tape to gutter. Pages a touch age toned, with instances of spotting to page perimeters. Instances of light tide marks to perimeters of chromolithographs. Lacking three plates to volume II. Lacking a text portion of one leaf of volume II.
