    A handsome collection of William Shakespeare's famous works, presented here complete in three volumes. Decorated with engravings throughout. 

    Undated, dated from copies held institutionally. 

    Uniformly bound in half calf with cloth boards. 

    Accompanied by historical and critical studies of Shakespeare's texts, characters and commentators, with annotations and introductory remarks on the plays by Richard Grant White and others. 

    Vol I - Comedies 
    Vol II - Tragedies
    Vol III - Historical Plays, Poems and Sonnets 

    With a memoir of the playwright by Barry Cornwall (Bryan Waller Procter), an English poet who served as a Commissioner in Lunacy.

    From the library of Samuel Webster Allen (1844-1908), the Bishop of Shrewsbury from 1897-1908. 

    Condition

    Uniformly bound in half calf with cloth boards. Externally, very smart. With marks to the boards, most notably to the front board of Vol III, and general shelf wear. With the bookplate of one Samuel Webster Allen to the front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the occasional spot.
