This anthology features a series of narrations that reflect the culture and historical events of the Scottish Borders, exploring themes of love, family, conflict, and community against the backdrop of the region's dramatic landscapes. With titles such as: The Vacant Chair, Recollections of Ferguson, The Professor's Tales, The Countess of Wistonbury, and Midside Maggy, amongst many others. Written by John Mackay Wilson, a Scottish writer and editor of the Berwick Advertiser. Whilst editor, Wilson began publishing local stories and their popularity led to him extending them into a weekly broadsheet. Although he died within a year, the Tales ran to over three hundred editions, offering almost five hundred short tales and serials with his obituary published in issue forty-nine.
