Illustrated by popular 'Punch' caricaturist John Leech, including thirteen steel-engraved colour plates and many vignettes. Collated, complete.

This countryside romp is one of the classic sporting novels from underrated Victorian novelist Robert Smith Surtees, featuring humorous Mr. Sponge and an eccentric cast of characters.

Condition

Bound in half morocco, with cloth boards. Externally, with rubbing to the extremities and marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with the odd spot or handling mark throughout, heaviest to the first and last few leaves. Small contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
