German. Scarce edition, an early edition to provide the vocal score. The musical score and lyrics for this romantic comic opera in four acts, set to a German libretto. Flotow had composed the first act of a ballet derived from a text by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges, for the ballerina Adèle Dumilâtre. The opera became an adaptation of this ballet, following Lady Harriet Durham, a maid-of-honour to Queen Anne who, tired of Court life and so sick of her many insipid admirers, retires to the country. With the musical score written by Friedrich Adolf Ferdinand, Freiherr von Flotow, a German composer. Dated from the Royal College of Music Library.
Condition
Bound in half crushed morocco with marbled boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with cracks to the joints. Light loss to the head and tail of the spine as well as the board tips. With the odd mark to the boards. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot and light age toning to the extremities.
