Sixteenth edition. Very scarce work. A collection of five thousand tips and guides to family living with information on a variety of practical domestic jobs or chores. In addition to a section on "The Culinary Arts" there are also chapters which include wine, brewing, medicine, husbandry, horticulture, rural and domestic economy, and many others. Written by Colin Mackenzie, a Scottish writer, book producer, editor, translator and compiler who wrote and produced works of non-fiction. His works include educational and informative works on chemistry, cookery, medicine, popular science, geography, history, economics and religion, the "gentlemen's clubs" of London, a "parliamentary pocketbook", and a report on poverty.
Condition
Bound in the original calf to the boards with cloth at the spine. Externally, sound with rubbing and light loss to the board edges and light marking to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound with pages 507-526 detached but present. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Light spotting and minor age toning to the first and last few pages. Previous owner's bookplate and a contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown. With a section of the front free endpaper pasted to the front pastedown.
