A half calf volume with seventy-five pages of sheet music, with each page filled with music, psalms and hymns.
Dated from an ink inscription from the owner of the book.
This well-loved, handwritten musical work is filled with a variety of religious lyrics, including 'Love Divine, All Loves Excelling', 'Lamb of God', 'Why Those Fears?', a number of 'Morning' and 'Evening' hymns, as well as a selection of French hymns, such as 'Sentiment de Notre Misère' and 'Le Monde Passe'.
With musical accompaniment to some verses, while others detail solely the lyrics.
This charming collection was written by Charlotte M. Pryce, with her ownership inscription to the front paste down, dated July 1837, Edinburgh.
With a label of 'Paterson & Roy', Edinburgh, "Who have always on hand a Choice selection of London Piano-Fortes".
Condition
Bound in half calf with paper-covered boards. Externally, slightly worn, with rubbing to boards and extremities. Slight loss to the head and tail of the spine and cracking to the joints. Ink inscription to the front paste down and label to the rear paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Some pages are tipped in, with additions to pages, the odd mark. Work is handwritten, with the occasional ink blot and tear to pages.
