What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, Leather Binding

A beautifully illuminated example of an Ottoman Empire Quran, written in its original language. Not only is the Quran an incredibly significant religious text, but it is also considered to be one of the finest works of Arabic literature.

The first two pages, featuring the first surah Al-Fatiha, has been beautifully illuminated, with gilt and hand coloured borders, and gold circular verse markers. Throughout the rest of the text the pages are adorned with red borders and red circular verse markers, with the surah headings also written in red ink. Calligraphic juz markers can be found to the margins.

Bound in a decorative gilt tooled mikleb binding with the envelope fore-edge flap, as is common with Ottoman Empire Qurans.

Written in Arabic in black naskh script, reading right to left, on polished paper.

Includes all 114 Surahs, starting with Al-Fatiha and ending in An-Naas, as is expected. Collated, complete.

Condition

In a full calf mikleb envelope binding. Externally, a slight lean, light rubbing to the extremities, small closed tears to the head and tail of the joints, with slight loss to the tail of the front hinge, and the odd minor mark. The flap does not close over the binding. Minor marks to the pastedowns. Internally firmly bound with the odd spot, minor handling marks and slight smudging to the ink in places.
