Illustrated, Original Binding, Very Scarce
Bound in its original blue cloth.
One of many natural history titles by the prolific Rev. J. G. Wood, originally published in 1853.
A very scarce example of this elegant 20th Century binding - the work of noted Scottish artist Jessie M. King, famous for her contributions to the art nouveau style.
This particular design can be seen in use on a number of titles published at the turn of the century.
Features a colour frontispiece, a single, richly coloured plate of a reindeer, and frequently monochrome vignette illustrations throughout, drawn by William Harvey.
Undated, dated from a copy held by the National Library of Scotland.
Condition
Bound in original blue cloth. Externally, in very good condition. Slight wear to spine and spine tips. bumped head and tail. Ink inscription of a 'Cedric Fletcher' to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound, occasional straining. Pages generally bright and clean, occasional handling marks. Spotting to top and front page edges. Age toning to final page.
