In the publisher's original decorative cloth, with an illustrated frontispiece from the story. Contains numerous in-text illustrations from the story depicting Japanese cultural life before and during the Meiji Restoration. Collated complete.

Contains original advertisements of works by the publisher's, including illustrated and fine art volumes.

A fascinating book aimed to teach children aged 8-14 Japanese life and culture in a narrative form. The story follows a Japanese boy who grows up during the end of the Edo period, and takes part in the transformative Meiji Restoration. Fascinated by the country, Angus writes the story with the idea that Japan is the real-life Wonderland.

Condition

In the publisher's original decorative cloth. Externally, very smart. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The occasional mark and sign of fading. Offsetting to free end papers. Internally, generally firmly bound with slight signs of wear to hinge. Spotting to frontispiece wrapper. Pages are bright and clean.
