A beautifully bound collection of plays by French dramatist, Jean-Baptiste Racine, edited and with an introduction by L. S. Auger, in red cloth binding with gilt decoration. In French.

Undated, dated c.1850 from a copy held at the University of St Andrews Library.

With thirteen monochrome plates before each play, including a portrait frontispiece of Racine. Collated, complete. 

Jean-Baptiste Racine (22 December 1639 - 21 April 1699) was a French playwright, considered one of the three great playwrights of 17th-century France, along with Molière and Corneille. 

Condition

In red cloth binding with gilt decoration to the spine. Externally, very smart with visible shelf wear to extremities and spine, particularly head and tail. Marks, including one patch of damp staining, to front board. Internally, firmly bound. Front and rear hinges strained. Pages age toned. Spotting to front free endpapers. Marbled paste downs. Gilt fore edge.
