Len Deighton is a British author known for his novels on espionage and military history. This novel is entirely packed with suspense, with many twists and false leads, like much of Deighton's other work.
'An Expensive Place to Die' is initially set in Paris, following the story of a middle-aged English spy who is sent to deliver some classified information on a nuclear fall-out. As the story develops, it is hard to know who to trust and who is the enemy.
This novels takes its title from an Oscar Wilde quote, saying that "Dying in Paris is a terribly expensive business".
